According to the Shmults Brothers / Brom Productions Ltd. stage drama The Evolution of the Chemist, EARTH was the element that caused the least problems in understanding, but the most headaches (in its form of wooden clubs used to beat each other's heads). Well, as I elaborated in my introductory page, the modern Earth sciences are somewhat more sophisticated and a lot more diverse, covering every angle of this 'elemental science'.
